Human Resources Manager

Sodexo Government Services has a dynamic career opportunity for a Human Resource Manager for our facility management business with a high-profile Government Services client in Connecticut.

This HR opportunity will require someone with previous experience in the HR field to include Union experience, recruiting skills in this challenging labor market, organizational skills and time management are a must. This is a high- profile position with regular client interactions and Sodexo leadership – interpersonal skills and ability to handle a high degree of accountability will be necessary.

About the contract :

  • This business is over $8 Million Annual Revenue

  • Sodexo provides maintenance and custodial services for all 23 of the Service Plazasalong Interstate 95, Route 15, and Interstate 395, all located in Connecticut.

  • Each of the service plazas has food, retail and convenience/fueling tenants that deliver required services to travelers on some of the busiest highways and parkways in the Northeast and the US.

  • The position is in Trumbull, CT office and is expected to be available to travel to all Service Plazas and client meetings, as needed.

About the position:

The Human Resource Manager will be responsible for over 100 Union Employees at this multi-site location and will partner and provide professional HR technical expertise to our management team and service employees that work directly with our prestigious client.

The ideal candidate must be politically savvy in regard to verbal and written communication skills. He or she must also be highly organized with a strong demonstrated mature business acumen.

The HR Manager for the CT Service Plazas operations will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • On-Boarding: Hiring, recruitment and retention of employees

  • Training and orientation

  • Off-boarding in accordance with CT state laws

  • Employee Relations (simple to complex)

  • Grievance and employee complaint processes

  • Employee Engagement (driving initiatives in line with survey results)

  • This position is responsible and accountable to drive outcomes for any HR initiatives and special projects directly related to the contract and the company.

  • This position interacts frequently with Senior Management and must exercise discretion and independent judgment in formulating and applying human resources and other management policies to non-routine and complex business challenges.

  • Sodexo will require a background check for this position.

Qualifications & Skills:

The most qualified candidate for this position will have proven experience in the Human Resource field and government experience is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience handling complex employee relations matters and labor relations matters.

  • Union experience, practical and “hands-on”

  • Relationship Management – both with the operational leaders and our sub-contractors

  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of the following HR systems:

  • ADP

  • Kronos

  • EDW – Enterprise Data Warehouse (used for analytics)

  • Microsoft Office 365 (TEAMS, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)

  • Smartsheet

  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends in HR related areas, retention, engagement, employee relations

  • Knowledge of the broad range of relationships that could impact an employee, employer, or applicant, i.e. of Federal and State laws, Company policies and practices, and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate, and recommend an appropriate resolution to an employee and labor relations complaint.

  • Effective professional communication – written and verbal

  • Ability to work in a fast- paced environment

About the team: Over 100 custodial and maintenance employees across the Service Plazas; HR position will have a dual reporting structure to the Director of Facilities and the HR Business Partner for the segment. There are over 7 management employees throughout the campus that this position will be an integral part of.

Position Summary

Handles human resource functions, up to complex issues and administration for single or multi-unit/account(s). May include payroll, benefits, training, employee relations, recruiting, safety, etc. Position focuses on hourly workforce and may or may not include union accounts.

Key Duties

  • Respond to inquiries regarding HR plans, programs & policies. Education managers and employees on policies and procedures. Assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures. Knowledge of and oversees all Federal, State and Local laws regarding human resources.

  • Investigate and resolve employee issues and recommend resolutions, based on policy, as appropriate. Involve those necessary based on incidents; HR People Center, legal, etc. If applicable, management of union employees; understanding of all contract rules/policies and management of arbitration. Involvement of contract negotiations.

  • Provide direction to managers and employees on implementation of HR plans, programs, policies, and training. Act as the primary consultant on various HR initiatives.

  • Serve as the HR consultant and work with operations to positively impact business.

  • Perform due diligence for new business initiatives to determine the appropriate HR plans, programs, process, and tools (including compensation, benefits, leadership, staffing, diversity & inclusion) based on financial and legal exposure.

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree

Basic Management Experience - 2 years

Basic Functional Experience – 2 years in HR
