Description/Job Summary

Job Overview:

The Banquet Support – Wait Staff will provide prompt and courteous service to all customers. Provide customers with efficient and attentive service while exceeding the customer s expectations. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

/General Responsibilities:/

  • Greets and seats customers.

  • Presents customers with menus.

  • Serves food to customers at a limited number of tables, using proper rules of etiquette.

  • Makes appropriate meal and beverage suggestions and answers questions regarding food preparation.

  • Writes a food check and/or memorizes the order.

  • Relays the order to the kitchen.

  • Accepts payment, refers customers to the cashier or operates the cash register.

  • Cleans and sanitizes workstations and equipment and assists in clearing and resetting tables.

  • May carve meat, fish or poultry and/or prepare flaming dishes and desserts.

  • May carry and distribute supplies and equipment.

  • May assist others in the preparation of foods and properly store food.

  • May total bills and may be asked to respond to complaints regarding food or service.

  • May operate dishwasher or assist with washing dishes, glassware, silverware, utensils, pots and pans.

  • May assist with stocking food inventory.

  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.

  • Complies with all Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.

  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.

  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.

  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.

  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.

/Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):/

  • Generally in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.

  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.

United Polaris lounge -Lounge Attendant, non-tipped

Job Summary: Participate in daily Pre-flight team meeting. Make certain personal appearance and uniform is compliant with established Polaris requirements, client and Sodexo policies. Confirm areas are presentable for a guest to walk through. Review normally assigned tasks for the day as established or as communicated. Communicate with supervisor about any specific task changes or high priorities. Always be willing to assist in other areas as demands or staffing changes.

Periodically ensure the quality of your work is being completed to standards. While entering the front of the house or other areas of the airport (in approved uniform, ready to work) greet guests and provide appropriate suggestions and answers to questions regarding available offers, food and beverage preparation and ingredients, including potential allergens. Work with team in clearing service items and in cleaning the guest tables and seating. Maintain the lounge areas in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition. Polaris lounge Attendants may prepare, deliver and/or serve food items as required. Complete opening and closing duties. Complete related tasks as requested by Sodexo management.

Employee will self-manage time before the end of shift, planning time and efforts needed to complete closing duties such as: stocking, cleaning and required documentation. Employees will ask for help if they are unable to complete tasks and will work with supervisor or certifying team member to avoid being behind in the future. Ensure adherence to quality, cleaning, and maintenance expectations and standards; work with guests to ensure satisfaction. Always aid the next shift by completing checklists and communicate concerns or areas to be addressed verbally to supervisor or by written communication (if on a closing shift).

Set tables, buffet, beverage stations and other assigned guest service displaysaccording to service standards, including types of linens, vessels, glassware, plate/chinaware, and silver/flatware. Monitor tableware to ensure it is presentable to customers, including checking for cleanliness, cracks, and chips. Maintain and monitor buffets, beverage stations and other assigned guest service displays at levels established and at proper temperatures. Check in with customers to ensure satisfaction with food and/or beverages offered. Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of work areas, serving areas, and assigned tables, including ensuring service ware is cleared and tables are properly crumbed and cleaned when appropriate. Return used dishes and equipment to dishwashing or kitchen for cleaning. Complete assigned tasks, opening and closing duties.Respond to guest and client complaints/compliments regarding food or beverage service.Complete related tasks as requested by Sodexo management.

  • Satisfactorily complete assigned safety training and certification processes to perform work tasks/fulfill job duties

  • Maintain issued Airport ID badge in good order

  • Report lost or damaged Airport ID badge to your manager immediately

  • Understand and follow all Airport security rules and regulations

  • Report Airport ID badge expiration date to Sodexo manager 30 days before expiration

  • Follow all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Sodexo/client policies and procedures (e.g., Quality Assurance, Safety, Operations, Human Resources, United Polaris lounge Policies)

  • Adhere to uniform/dress code and ensure personal appearance is clean, hygienic, professional and in compliance with company and client policies and procedures

  • Appear for work in proper uniform and ready to work, “clocking in at or slightly before your scheduled start time

  • Understand and uphold the United Polaris lounge culture:

o Memorize and be prepared to recite the /Polaris North Star credo/

o Memorize and explain the /Shining Star Five Steps of Service/

o Understand and explain each of the ten /Shining Star Service Values/ and how they apply to the role

  • On separation from employment with Sodexo or when utilizing LOA, issued Airport ID badge and all uniform parts, clean and in good repair, must be returned to Sodexo management

  • Protect company tools, equipment, machines, or other assets in accordance with company policies and procedures


  • Attend and contribute to the Pre-Flight meeting before your shift

  • Review daily buffet menu items in Pre-flight and offer guests clear, accurate and appealing descriptions of those items and recommend wine pairings

Communications, continued

  • Must be able to describe and accurately compare all coffee based drinks offered, varietals of wines purveyed, beers, ales and stouts offered and various spirits, cocktails and liqueurs served and suggest appropriate pairings

  • Understand ingredients in all dishes on menu and buffet with awareness of any potential allergens

  • Must be able to clearly speak, write and understand proper business English (Safety and Security requirement under the United Polaris lounge contract)

  • Communicate with guests in an engaging, professional and polite manner

Client Retention

  • Maintain client satisfaction by performing at levels that contribute to account retention

  • Complete assigned tasks as trained and scheduled, to fulfill policy and contractual obligations

  • Follows all Sodexo safety requirements within assigned area of responsibility, as well as all local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Observe and utilize day-dots and procedures to receive, store and use all perishables on a first in/first out (FIFO) basis to assure freshness, wholesomeness and highest quality of products

  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and serving areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.

  • Communicate additional guest meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.

  • Monitor condition, temperature and appearance of all buffet offers and other food and beverage items assigned, recording data and assisting in corrective action as required

General Food Services, continued

  • Set tables according to type of event and service standards, including types of linens, glassware, plate/chinaware, and silver/flatware, ensuring all supplies meet quality standards.

  • Be aware of any possible threats to food safety, including guest mishandling, improper hand washing, food left unattended or cross contamination/physical contamination threats

  • Assess the quality of the food items and notify a supervisor or manager if a product does not meet specifications
