Job Overview

The Maintenance Worker will fix and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. This individual will paint, repair flooring, and work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems. In the event of an emergency he/she may be called to support necessary tasks in association with that emergency. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

/General Responsibilities:/

  • Perform maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations, or vehicle servicing.

o Performs tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, installing paper dispenser units, changing filters, changing locks on doors, minor decorative maintenance and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.

  • Cleans and lubricates parts.

  • Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight.

  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.

  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.

  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.

  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

  • May perform snow removal and other grounds keeping activities.

  • May be required to assist with special events.

  • May drive a cart or other vehicle.

  • Assists skilled trade workers in one or more areas performing specific or standard duties to learn new skills as required for advancement and certification.

  • May be required to utilize basic cleaning and other chemicals.

  • May coordinate work activities of General Maintenance Apprentices.

  • May assist in training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees.

  • Examines mechanical equipment to diagnose trouble.

  • Disassembles machines and repairs or replaces broken parts.

  • Adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.

  • May orders replacement parts and equipment with management approval.

  • Inspects completed repairs.

  • May be required to inventory equipment, parts and supplies.

  • May repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, air conditioners, etc.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

POSITION TITLE: GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (Air Terminal)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs maintenance service and/or repairs in one or more skilled areas including plumbing, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations or vehicle servicing. Primary duties will relate to air terminal maintenance including but not limited to passenger boarding bridges, passenger seating areas as well as general maintenance of assigned areas. Performs additional tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, moving furniture or snow removal.

RESPONSIBIILITIES AND DUTIES:

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Operations Manager in maintaining the facility in good repair with emphasis on air terminal spaces including passenger boarding bridges.

  • Performs and assists in maintenance of the grounds, parking areas, and driveways.

  • Performs and assists in routine plumbing, plastering, painting, lighting, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical maintenance and repairs of the facility, equipment, and HVAC systems.

  • Performs duties as directed or required in compliance with established Universal Precautions, fire, safety, infection control, isolation, and sanitation procedures.

  • Promptly reports accidents, incidents, unsafe and hazardous conditions, and defective equipment to the Operations Manager.

  • Ensures that work areas are clean, free of hazardous conditions, and that all tools and supplies are properly stored to ensure compliance with established regulations and procedures at all times.

  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations.

  • Assists in implementing Sodexo s Diversity Program as it relates to the department.

  • Attends and participates in training, in-service educational activities, workshops, and seminars as directed by the Operations Manager.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Participates in annual educational updates on methods to keep themselves and staff safe.

  • Follows safe work practices and wears appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary.

  • Maintains knowledge of location and contents of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Maintains knowledge of location and contents of departmental Material Safety Data Sheets.

  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency of assignments during implementation of facility disaster and emergency preparedness plans.

  • Actively seeks out opportunities to improve the safety conditions in the facility, e.g., reporting of water spills in corridor and other floors to housekeeping when noted or notifying appropriate individuals when adverse safety conditions are suspected or noted.

  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a HS diploma or equivalent education preferably with a vocational trade concentration.

  • Must be able to maintain positive relationships and interactions with customers and staff.

  • Must be able to work overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays as needed in emergencies.

  • One year of experience in residential/commercial basic maintenance preferred.

  • Ability to read blueprints and common measuring instruments preferred.

  • Ability to walk, stand, push, pull, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, grasp, ability to demonstrate fine hand coordination, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.

  • Ability to read and write in English and to communicate with staff, vendors, and support agencies, and ability to remain calm under stress.
