Sodexo has an opportunity for a Catering Manager 2 at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, CO- a four-year public liberal arts college located in the heart of the Elk Mountains, only 30 miles from the resort town of Crested Butte. This growing university has a newer university center, Catering and conference volume of over $450k annually and the University features a ballroom with several smaller conference rooms.

This position will also oversee new ICE house project, a retail application that will feature a beer and wine bar with limited food service offerings. Our catering operation provides a wide scope of catering services ranging from daily meetings for as little as 5 people up to major upscale events including Board of Trustees, fund-raising events and weddings.

As the Catering Manager, you will be overseeing an innovative, high-end catering program for high-profile clients as well as oversee the day-to-day scheduling/technical delivery of all catering . In this position, you will be charged with creating casual, elegant and sophisticated catering experiences that exceed culinary and service expectations while enhancing client program objectives.

Reporting to the General Manager, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous catering /event management experience (full event life-cycle), preferably within a high-volume campus dining setting or hotel setting.

  • Proven ability to build/mentor a solid catering team that shares your level of commitment and passion for exceptional catering .

  • Client satisfaction skills; professional demeanor; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to multi-task and delegate to coordinate multiple events and utilize a systems-based approach to meet each event's time-lines/specifications and quality of product.

  • The ability to drive continuous system improvements within a catering program.

Position Summary

Oversight of catering activities for a small to mid-size location/unit with $500k-$1M in managed catering volume. Medium complexity with a high degree of hands on involvement in catering events. Strong client interaction.

Key Duties

  • Oversight of Sodexo resources, recipes, systems and use of catering programs to direct daily catering events including; food production, inventory, product deliveries, invoices, and procurement operations.

  • Oversight of the sales process for catering and/or conference service events. Works with client and customers to design events.

  • Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their job, and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines as assigned.

  • Establishes and maintains a safe work environment including both food and physical safety in order to comply with all regulatory and Sodexo standards in various environments. Drives the Zero Harm mindset.

  • Complies with budget requirements by controlling costs (i.e. labor, inventory, equipment, materials) and making adjustments when necessary

  • Supervises employees by delegating, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma or GED

Basic Management Experience - 1 year
