Unit Description

Sodexo Government North America is seeking an experienced accounting professional for a Unit Controller position and will have an office location of Williamsville/Buffalo, NY. The Unit Controller will have direct financial oversight for 28 different United States Marine Corps accounts (mess halls) located on the eastern seaboard of the United States.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated & strong knowledge of accounting policies and procedures , the ability to adhere to strict deadlines and acute report accuracy , familiarity with accounting processes and government reporting regulations, strong analytical skills , advanced proficiency in finance related computer applications, familiarity with unit operations, ability to develop working relationships with field operators, and the ability to interpret, analyze and explain financial information.

Strong customer service, collaborative team approach, and organizational skills are needed for this fast paced, dynamic accounting position. The ability to communicate effectively both written and oral with the Sodexo team and key client contacts is essential.

Primary responsibilities of the Unit Controller include:

  • Prepare financial statements and general ledger account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP, SEC, DCAA, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure that assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses for responsibility area are accurately reported, accounted and reported in conformity with GAAP and Company accounting policies.

  • Maintain records and reports necessary to comply with Company, government, and accrediting agency standards, regulations, and codes.

  • Analyze operating and financial statement information.

  • Analyze, develop, document, and implement departmental accounting policies, procedures, and systems, and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Prepare and/or review team account reconciliations and balance sheet/inventory analysis.

  • Examine financial records to verify details of recorded transactions.

  • Prepare and review reports and other written documentation.

  • Interpret and implement client contracts and amendments into accounting systems, and maintain accuracy of databases to produce accurate financial results, including contractual liabilities.

  • Ensure that personnel comply with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as Company and customer/client policies and procedures.

  • Train accountants and field in contract interpretation, accounting procedures, system applications, and other areas

  • 20% Travel required to our US Marine Corps sites and/or company meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's in Accounting Supervisory/Managerial Experience:


Position Summary

Manages all accounting and financial matters for large multi-size national account or a large complex single location account. Responsibilities include accounts payable/receivable, budget, payroll, reporting, inventory, chargeback's, etc. Responsible for accounting and financial reporting. Analyzes account budget(s). Performs financial analysis to assist decision making. Provides financial training for unit personnel.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's degree in accounting, business, finance or related field.

Basic Functional Experience – 2 years in accounting, finance or a related field.
