currently has an opportunity for a Retail Food Service Manager 2 at located in . Morningside College is a private, four-year, co-educational institution with 23 buildings on a 68-acre campus in a scenic, secure residential area of (population 140,000) and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The College enrolls more than 1,250 full-time students. Although the majority of students hail from Iowa and Nebraska, Morningside draws students from more than 25 states and several foreign countries.

Food operations at Morningside include one "all-you-care-to-eat" resident dining hall, retail dining, coffee shop and catering. Reporting to the General Manager, the Retail Food Manager will have direct oversight and mentor approximately 40-45 frontline employees in resident and retail dining. This position will be trained in all areas of the operation including resident dining, retail, catering, food safety standards, client relations and assists the Executive Chef in managing food cost.

The ideal candidate will have the following preferred skills/background:

  • 2+ years of management experience preferably within a campus/university/restaurant setting.

  • High expectations for customer service, consistent delivery and quality of food.

  • Good understanding of financials as they apply to cost controls of food and labor.

  • Ability and willingness to develop and train frontline employees.

  • Ability to think outside of the box.

  • Desire to support the entire dining operation.

Position Summary

Maintains food quality and customer service in a cash handling retail food operation that includes branded concepts, in-house formats and signature designs. May assume General Manager's (GM) responsibilities and authority in his/her absence. Assists in maintenance of cash control and payroll records. Assists in supporting the financial/Human Resources (HR) functions. Maintains customer satisfaction and good public relations.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma or GED

Basic Management Experience - 1 year

Basic Functional Experience - 1 year of work experience in concessions, retail sales, or store operations.
