Unit Description

Sodexo Senior Living is seeking a hands-on Chef Manager for ManorCare located in the heart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania . This is 180 bed long term care and rehab facility with 7 dining rooms. This position is mainly closing shift 9:00am - 7:00pm, may vary and work every other weekend.

The Chef Manager at this community will report to the General Manager and manage a staff of approximately 20 hourly employees, 4 supervisors. Will cook as needed and be involved with and responsible to manage the daily operations of the kitchen. Best qualified candidate possesses excellent cooking skills, knowledge of plate presentation and have passion and creativity for food. It will be required that this position be hands on during resident and client functions to produce outstanding and high quality food and dining experiences.

The ideal candidate for this position will have one or more years culinary experience along with prior experience supervising and supporting the food production functions of kitchen. Must have the ability to motivate employees to continually improve performance and outcomes with a passion for preparing and executing outstanding dining experiences. The adherence to proper food handling and proper safety programs is critical to success. Experience in a health care or retirement community is ideal. Working knowledge of web based programs is needed to be successful.

Position Summary

Supervises cooks and oversees the preparation, portioning, garnishing, and storage of food. Estimates food consumption and purchases food. May assist in cooking and preparing food as necessary. Responsible for maintaining kitchen and storage facilities in sanitary condition. Responsible for cash management. Interacts with client/customers on a regular basis. This position is the leader for an account/unit chef/production group. This position is in smaller accounts/units where there is not a Executive Chef or Food Production Manager. Reports to General Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree

Basic Management Experience - 1 year

Basic Functional Experience - 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
