Unit Description

Sodexo has an exciting Benefits Specialist position now available. This role is based out of Headquarters in Gaithersburg MD.

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for handling the day to day operations and processes of the Benefits Department.

Reporting to the Benefits Manager, this position will be responsible for the following:

  1. Handles all incoming telephone calls, emails and face-to-face inquiries from all employees and resolves benefits related questions, problems, etc.

  2. Serves as liaison to Field Office human resources staff, other corporate colleagues, as well as external vendors and third party administrators

  3. Administers the Worker’s Compensation Leave of Absence (LOA) report

  4. Administers the Eligibility and Ineligibility Report

  5. Makes recommendations for plan modifications and/or vendor selection or retention based on vendor customer service record, participant’s complaints, etc.

  6. Assists with Annual Enrollment for all Health and Welfare plans

  7. Assists with testing for Annual Enrollment and other plan implementations as necessary

The ideal candidate will have the following preferred background/skillset:

  • 2 years of Benefits related experience; knowledge of Health and Welfare

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ADP

  • Knowledge of state and federal legislation regarding health care (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, etc.)

  • Understanding of insurance reimbursements and administration of PPOs and HMOs

  • Attention to detail; self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work and solve problems independently

  • Strong time management skills with excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • Ability to learn and discuss SDX plans eligibility and guidelines

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma or GED
