Sodexo is seeking a Catering Manager 2 for Emporia State University located in Emporia, Kansas . This Catering manager will create elegant catering experiences that exceed culinary and service expectations while enhancing client program objectives. This position is responsible for the organization, set-up and execution of all catering events and will work closely with the General Manager and Executive Chef.

Emporia State is a great mid-sized university located in the heart of Kansas, with plenty of activities for the outdoors enthusiast. Our campus enrollment is growing and our Memorial Union recently underwent a $22 million renovation to include a beautiful new banquet space! We also have a newly renovated dining room with Euro-style kitchen and stone-fired pizza station. Emporia is full of activity with NCAA Division II athletics for men and women as well as outstanding theatre and the arts programs. We serve as the premier event venue for regional meetings and conferences in the area as well as “wedding central” for many brides and grooms in the area by offering them an all-inclusive venue.

Are you the experienced food service manager we’re seeking?

We are looking for candidates who can:

  • identify internal/external customer needs and expectations;

  • ensure that Sodexo and customer goals are aligned and met;

  • educate and develop rapport with internal/external customers and promote partnerships;

  • promote a customer/client centered culture that strives to exceed customer and client needs; and

  • coordinate all unit catering initiatives to drive sales growth and track results.

Your success will be measured by your ability to:

  • maintain and improve service level resulting in increased customer satisfaction;

  • ensure all HAACP standards are followed; and

  • demonstrate resourcefulness and quick responsiveness to client and customer requests.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the organization and execution of all catering events and have demonstrated knowledge in casual and fine dining, and banquet management as well as strong writing, costing, menu development, and pricing skills.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Solid organizational skills

  • Excellent leadership/team building skills

  • The ability to handle catering at all levels from students to executives

  • Professional demeanor is required

Position Summary

Manages all catered events. Hires, schedules, and trains catering staff. Works with clients/customers to arrange and follow through on all catering details and to ensure all special requests are met. Directs setup for events. Responsible for pricing, billing and resolving customer complaints. Develops menu/costing.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma or GED

Basic Management Experience - 1 year

Basic Functional Experience - 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
