Unit Description

Sodexo is looking for an energetic Environmental Services / Custodial General Manager 1 for Bakersfield Heart Hospital in Bakersfield, California. The ideal candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations for a 60 Bed hospital. Responsibilities include managing the EVS Department, housekeeping employees, contracted services and minor maintenance of building department utilizing Sodexo tools and systems to ensure Sodexo standards are met. Ideal candidate must be flexible in work hours and be able to train/ mentor/motivate hourly staff. The ideal candidate for this position will also have strong client/ employee relationship-building skills and possess the ability to manage direct reports, handle multiple priorities, quickly grasps situations and logically progress through solutions, the ability to refine systems ensuring sustained effort of achieving standards. Must have prior contractor experience with proven track record in health care ES. Relocation is not offered at this time.

  • Previous experience managing an EVS Department

The “Hands-On” manager primarily handles day to day operational functions and ensures unit level, corporate, employee relations, safety, training, and unit operating systems compliance. Managing in a strong union environment is a plus but not a requirement.

Required: Good working knowledge of state & federal employment law; solid computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; good communication and presentation skills; detailed oriented, and well organized.

High energy for fast paced environment. Client engagement and patient satisfaction is essential for the success of this role. This position is Monday-Friday may include some weekends and holidays.

Position Summary

Directs all housekeeping operations at a single unit. Supervises all cleaning personnel. Responsible for maintaining payroll records. Hires and trains unit personnel. Maintains customer satisfaction and good public relations. Senior-most person assigned to a one client account.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree

Basic Management Experience - 2 years

Basic Functional Experience - 2 years
